SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT

Snow, rain, and very strong winds are expected. Locations: southern Newfoundland from Connaigre to Cape Race. Potential wind gusts: easterly 60 to 80 km/h, shifting to southwesterly 90 to 130 km/h, and then to northwesterly 100 to 130 km/h, with the strongest gusts expected along the coast. Time span: overnight tonight until Tuesday morning. Remarks: After an initial period of snow tonight, precipitation is expected to change over to rain by Monday morning. Ice pellets and freezing rain may occur during the changeover. Rain or drizzle will change back to a brief period of flurries Monday evening and be accompanied by very intense southwest to northwesterly winds. Snowfall and rainfall accumulations are not expected to be significant, but strong winds combined with fresh falling snow will cause reduced visibility in blowing snow Monday night.
