Hazardous winter conditions are possible. A powerful Alberta Clipper is being closely monitored by meteorologists, with the potential to bring blizzard conditions to southern Manitoba. Time span: Wednesday evening until Thursday afternoon. Snowfall: 10 to 20 cm or more of snow is anticipated, with a swath of significant snowfall likely to impact south-central Manitoba, including areas east and southeast of the Manitoba Parklands, towards the Trans-Canada highway, Portage la Prairie, Winnipeg, and the Whiteshell Provincial Park. Freezing Rain: A possibility of freezing rain exists over southwestern Manitoba, with amounts ranging from 1 to 2 mm. Wind Gusts: Northerly winds with gusts of 80 to 90 km/h or higher are expected. These winds combined with fresh snow and ongoing falling snow may lead to blizzard conditions. Review your emergency plan in case utility outages occur. Consider modifying any travel plans; if travel is necessary, allow extra time to reach your destination. Plan ahead in case schools or scheduled activities are cancelled. Store or anchor outdoor objects so they are not tossed by the wind. Roads and walkways may be very difficult to navigate. Visibility may be suddenly reduced to near zero at times.
