Blizzard warning in effect for:

  • Dempster

Blizzard conditions with gusty winds and visibility frequently near zero in snow and blowing snow are expected or occurring.

A building ridge of high pressure over the Northwest Territories will combine with low pressure over the southern Yukon to generate very strong northeast winds near the Richardson Mountains. Winds will increase to 80 km/h with gusts to 100 this evening producing blizzard conditions over the northern Dempster Highway.

Blizzard conditions will persist until Thursday afternoon when winds begin to ease.

Travel is expected to be extremely hazardous due to reduced visibility. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
