Snow squall warning in effect for:
- Ottawa North - Kanata - Orléans
- Ottawa South - Richmond - Metcalfe
Periods of brief but intense snowfall are expected. Visibilities will be rapidly reduced due to the heavy snow combined with blowing snow.
A cold front is moving through the area this evening. Near whiteout conditions in snow and blowing snow can be expected, along with local snowfall accumulations of 2 to 4 cm.
Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.
Snow squall warnings are issued when bands of snow form that produce intense accumulating snow or near zero visibilities.
