Snow squall watch in effect for:

  • Chapleau - Missinaibi Lake

Snow squalls are expected to develop. Under the snow squall bands, visibilities will be significantly reduced due to the heavy snow combined with blowing snow, and snow will quickly accumulate.

Flurries are expected to develop into snow squalls this evening.

Local snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 cm will be possible by Thursday morning as the snow squalls move through the region.

Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. If you must travel, keep others informed of your schedule and destination and carry an emergency kit and mobile phone.

Snow squall watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the formation of bands of snow that could produce intense accumulating snow or near zero visibilities.
