Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Barry's Bay - Killaloe

Halloween brings the first significant snowfall of the season.

A low pressure system over Southern Lake Huron will track southeast towards the Lower Great Lakes today. Precipitation has begun over areas near Georgian Bay and will spread eastward to the Ottawa Valley midday. Precipitation will continue tonight.

Precipitation has begun as rain in regions south of Georgian Bay, including the Dundalk Highlands, and will transition to snow late this evening. East of Georgian Bay, including the Haliburton Highlands, snow, possibly beginning as wet snow, will continue today and tonight.

Current indications suggest that total snowfall amounts of 2 to 5 cm will be possible south of Georgian Bay tonight, particularly over areas of higher elevation. To the east of Georgian Bay, total amounts of 10 to 15 cm will be possible today and tonight. However actual snowfall accumulation on the ground in these areas may be less due to melting on the still relatively warm ground.

The snow is expected to taper off early Saturday morning as the low system pulls away to the southeast.
