Alerts for: Renfrew - Pembroke - Barry's Bay

7:47 PM EDT Wednesday 01 April 2015
Freezing rain warning in effect for:

  • Barry's Bay - Killaloe
  • Petawawa - Pembroke - Cobden
  • Renfrew - Arnprior - Calabogie

Freezing rain is expected.

An approaching warm front is expected to bring a narrow band of freezing rain overnight and early Thursday morning. Freezing rain is expected to arrive over the western regions after midnight and begin over the Ottawa Valley a couple of hours before day break. For most regions, freezing rain is expected to last 2 to 3 hours at any one place with amounts in the 2 to 4 mm range.

However, due to the cold air trapped in the Ottawa Valley, temperatures are expected to remain at or below freezing until mid or late Thursday morning, and thus light freezing rain could linger into mid morning and impact the morning commute.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight. Freezing Rain Warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.
