Wind warning in effect for:
Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring.
An intense low pressure system over Quebec will continue to intensify and track to the northwest. Strong easterly winds with gusts to 90 km/h developed in the Kimmirut area last night and have persisted throughout the day, these strong winds will move northward into Iqaluit and Pangnirtung late this afternoon. Gusts as high as 110 km/h are possible at times.
Strong easterly winds are expected to continue tonight into Tuesday. Winds will begin to diminish over southern Baffin Island on Tuesday morning then over the remainder of the region on Wednesday.
In addition some snow is expected with this system, especially over Southern Baffin Island. Poor visibility in snow and blowing snow is a possibility.
Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.
