Warnings

Blizzard warning in effect for:

  • Sachs Harbour

Blizzard conditions with gusty winds and visibility frequently near zero in snow and blowing snow are expected or occurring.

Strong northerly winds have developed over the Amundsen Gulf in the wake of a weather system moving eastwards along the mainland coast. These winds have combined with fresh snowfall to give blizzard conditions to Sachs Harbor this afternoon. Blizzard conditions are expected to develop at Paulatuk and Ulukhaktok later this evening. Conditions are not expected to improve until Sunday morning.

Travel is expected to be extremely hazardous due to reduced visibility. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.

Blizzard warnings are issued when widespread reduced visibilities of 400 metres or less are expected for at least 6 hours.
