Warnings

4:29 AM AST Saturday 25 February 2017
Rainfall warning in effect for:

  • Halifax County - east of Porters Lake

Rain, heavy at times is expected. The frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall.

A trough of low pressure will approach the province from the west today. Rain at times heavy, will develop late this evening over mainland Nova Scotia spreading eastward to Cape Breton overnight.
The heavy rain will taper off Sunday morning as the trough moves east of the province.

Rainfall amounts of 25 mm are expected by Sunday morning. Heavy rain combined with warm temperatures will melt the existing snow on the ground resulting in water pooling on roads or highways and possibly some localized flooding in low lying areas.

Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.
