Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Buchans and the interior

A low pressure system southwest of the Grand Banks is expected to rapidly intensify as it crosses the Avalon Peninsula Friday morning. Although the system will be crossing the island quickly, heavy snowfall accumulation is possible during a short period of time. Snow is expected to begin overnight tonight and will come to an end by Friday afternoon. Snowfall warnings have been issued for much of northeastern Newfoundland. Total snowfall accumulation may also possibly reach 15 cm over parts of central Newfoundland, the Bay d'Espoir Highway and northern sections of the Burin Peninsula.

Environment Canada meteorologists will continue to monitor the situation and will expand snowfall warnings if required.
