Special weather statement in effect for:
- Buchans and the interior
Significant winter weather possible on Thursday.
Forecast guidance indicates an area of low pressure will form off the American East Coast and track northeastward across Newfoundland late in the day on Thursday. Precipitation will develop well ahead of the system Wednesday night as a warm front sets up across the island. Precipitation will likely continue over the island until Thursday night or Friday morning depending on location.
There remains some uncertainty in the track of this system, but current guidance suggests the warm front will set up over Eastern Newfoundland. North and west of the warm front, significant snowfall accumulations are likely. Near the front, guidance indicates that a prolonged period of ice pellets is likely. Southeast of the front, precipitation will fall mainly as rain.
The public is advised to monitor future forecasts and warnings as warnings may be required.
