A winter storm will affect these regions Thursday into Friday.
A developing low pressure system south of the Great Lakes will intensify as it crosses the Maritimes Thursday morning to lie over the Gulf of St. Lawrence by Thursday evening. The system will then move into the Labrador Sea on Friday.
This system will bring significant snow starting Thursday and persisting into Friday, with current indications showing total snowfall accumulations of 10 to 20 centimetres by the end of the day Friday. Additionally, there is the potential for strong winds over these regions which could lead to reduced visibilities in blowing snow Thursday night into Friday. South of Lodge Bay, precipitation may change over to ice pellets for a period of time Thursday night.
A winter storm watch has been issued for red bay to l'anse au Clair, where weather is expected to be more severe.
