Warnings

Winter storm warning in effect for:

  • Gander and vicinity

Hazardous winter conditions are expected.

Snow, heavy at times, with accumulations of 10 to 15 centimetres is expected tonight, ahead of a low pressure system which will pass over the Avalon Peninsula this evening. Snow will taper to scattered flurries overnight tonight.

In addition, strong northeasterly winds will combine with the fresh snowfall to bring a period of reduced visibilities in blowing snow tonight. Visibilities will improve by Sunday morning as winds ease and snowfall rates taper off.

Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.

Winter storm warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to weatherNLWO@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports to #NLwx.
