Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Gander and vicinity

Rain and snow on tap for Newfoundland from Wednesday night, to Thursday night.

A pair of low pressure systems are expected to bring snow and rain to Newfoundland Wednesday night, Thursday and Thursday night. Snowfall amounts ranging from 10 to 20 centimetres and rainfall amounts between 15 and 30 millimetres can be expected by early Friday morning. At this time, the rain/snow boundary is expected to split the island in two such that the bulk of the snow will fall over the northwestern half of Newfoundland. A mostly rain event is expected along the entire South Coast and southern parts of the East Coast.

Rain will begin over most areas Wednesday night and persist in the south until Thursday night. However, snow will gradually spread southward across the island on Thursday or Thursday night.

Snowfall and rainfall totals may vary as the event draws nearer due to some uncertainty in the track and strength of these systems. The public is advised to monitor future forecasts as warnings may be required.
