Blowing Snow Advisory in effect for:

  • Bay of Exploits

Poor visibility in snow and blowing snow is expected or occurring in some locations.

Periods of snow are forecast to develop over northeastern Newfoundland on Tuesday morning and will likely become heavier later in the day, with potential for total accumulations to reach 10 cm by Tuesday night. This combined with strengthening northeasterly winds gusting to 80 km/h will result in poor visibilities in blowing snow.

Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility.

Blowing snow advisories are issued when winds are expected to create blowing snow giving poor visibility to 800 metres or less for at least 3 hours.

Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Bay of Exploits

As one low pressure system departs from the island Tuesday evening, bringing snow and strong winds to all but northernmost parts of the island, a second low is forecast to quickly follow from the south by early Wednesday. There is considerable uncertainty regarding the track of this second system, but the latest consensus suggests its centre will likely track west of the Avalon Peninsula. Temperatures are expected to climb above zero to the east of its track.

Snow in advance of this system will spread northward across Newfoundland after midnight Tuesday night, but will likely change to rain over eastern parts of the island as temperatures rise. The rain or snow will taper off over most areas on Wednesday morning, except on the Northern Peninsula where the snow may persist throughout the day.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to weatherNLWO@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports to #NLwx.
