Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Deer Lake - Humber Valley

An early-season fall-like storm is forecast to bring wet weather and strong winds tonight and Tuesday.

While most areas of Newfoundland will not see rainfall amounts reaching warning criteria, the entire island is expected to experience strong northwesterly winds gusting near 80 km/h. Winds this strong are somewhat unusual for August. Given the fact that most trees are carrying their full summer foliage, the public is advised to use caution near wooded areas due to the risk of falling branches or trees. Additionally, light campers, tents and patio furniture will be vulnerable to damage or being taken by the wind.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to weatherNLWO@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports to #NLwx.
