Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Deer Lake - Humber Valley

Lots of rain over the next couple of days.

A low pressure system southwest of Nova Scotia will track very slowly northeastward and pass south of the Avalon Peninsula Saturday evening. Periods of rain well out ahead of the low have already pushed across parts of Southern and Eastern Newfoundland overnight. The rain will spread to most other areas of the island except the Northern Peninsula today and will persist through Saturday. For regions under this special weather statement, generally 30 to 50 millimetres of rain can be expected by the end of the day Saturday. Some heavier bands of rain are likely as the system approaches which could result in locally higher amounts.

Additionally, motorists travelling through the Wreckhouse area should monitor the wind conditions over the next couple of days. These winds could be quite variable in speed and rapidly increase at times especially if the direction shifts from northeast to east.

The public is advised to monitor future forecasts and warnings as warnings may be required.
