Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Corner Brook and vicinity

Significant rainfall is expected over much of Newfoundland on Saturday through Saturday night, with local amounts possibly reaching 50 mm in some areas. Rainfall warnings are in effect for the south coast from Port-aux-Basques to the Burin Peninsula. Rain will taper to showers over most areas by Sunday morning.

There remains some uncertainty in the intensity of the system bringing the rain and Environment Canada meteorologists will continue to monitor its development. Persons in locations vulnerable to impacts from heavy rain are advised to monitor future forecasts and warnings.

Strong southeasterly winds are also expected to accompany this system, with gusts reaching warning criteria in the Wreckhouse area this evening, then further intensifying Saturday afternoon. Winds are forecast to ease as they shift to a southwesterly direction over most areas Saturday night. Strong gusts are likely on Saturday evening along parts of the west coast vulnerable to enhanced easterly winds, although at this time they are not expected to reach warning criteria.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to or tweet reports to #NLwx.
