Technical Marine Synopsis

Issued 9:30 PM PDT 21 May 2013 Tonight and Wednesday At 9:30 p.m. PDT tonight quasi-stationary ridge located west of
the offshore waters.

At 9:30 p.m. PDT tonight trough located over BC interior.
By 10:00 a.m. PDT Thursday trough located on a line north-south
over eastern Queen Charlotte Sound.
 

Marine Weather Statement

Issued 9:05 PM PDT 21 May 2013 A strong ridge of high pressure will remain over the offshore waters
while a trough of low pressure remains over the province tonight. On
Wednesday, both the offshore ridge and the interior trough will
weaken, thus decreasing the gradient between these two features.
Widespread gale to storm force northwest winds and heavy seas up to 5
metres will continue tonight off the outer coast including parts of
Hecate Strait and Queen Charlotte Sound. Winds will gradually ease on
Wednesday with some local gales persisting over the central offshore
waters and near Southern Haida Gwaii. Meanwhile, winds will remain
mostly light to moderate over the inner South Coast.

The trough will push onto the coast slightly on Wednesday bringing
some moderate southeast winds to central and south coastal areas.
This trough will become more established along the coast on Thursday
setting itself up on a north-south line from Northern Central Coast
region to Southeastern Explorer thus bringing some strong
southeasterlies to the Central Coast, and Western Vancouver Island.

Winds over the inner South Coast could also rise to strong southeast
with this feature developing.
