Technical Marine SynopsisIssued 3:00 AM NST 25 January 2015 Today Tonight and Monday At 3:00 a.m. NST today deepening low 965 mb located over the Gulf
of St. Lawrence.
By 3:00 a.m. NST Monday low 942 mb located over Labrador Sea.
At 3:00 a.m. NST today departing ridge located northeast of the
Marine Weather StatementIssued 2:59 AM NST 25 January 2015 An intense low pressure system entering the Gulf of St. Lawrence will
continue tracking northeastwards crossing Southeastern Labrador this
afternoon. Storm force southerly winds ahead of this low will spread
northeastwards across the marine district today. Gale to storm force
southwesterlies will follow in its wake diminishing to strong to gale
force overnight tonight into Monday morning.
Marine interests are advised that storm warnings are in effect for
all waters, and a high water level warning is in effect for the
Strait of Belle Isle and the Gulf - Port au Port.
Marine interests are also advised that freezing spray warnings are in
effect for the Strait of Belle Isle, Northeast Gulf, Gulf - Port au
Port, Southwest Coast, East Coast - north of Cape St. Francis,
Northeast Coast, Belle Isle Bank and Funk Island Bank.
Higher than normal water levels and rough pounding surf are expected
to develop along the western and southern coasts of Newfoundland,
early this morning and subsiding tonight. While current guidance
indicates that the highest water levels will not likely coincide with
the astronomical high tide, there is potential for water levels to
increase further if the storm track changes. The public is advised
to monitor future forecasts and warnings, as warnings may be issued
as further information becomes available.
