Issued 02:50 AM AST 09 February 2016 Higher than normal water levels are expected or occurring.

An intense low pressure system over East Scotian Slope will move to lie east of Cape Breton Island this morning. Large waves from the storm are expected to hit east to northeast facing shorelines this morning near high tide. In addition there will be higher than normal water levels due to storm surge.

Coastal flooding is likely, especially during high tide. Exposed coastal areas are at risk of flooding, and vessels and marine infrastructure in those areas are at risk of damage. Marine interests close to the shoreline should stay alert for worsening conditions, especially during high tide.

Issued 10:00 AM AST 9 February 2016 Today Tonight and Wednesday At 10:00 a.m. AST today low 978 mb located over Banquereau.
By 3:30 p.m. AST today departing low 982 mb located north of
Banquereau.

At 10:00 a.m. AST today deepening low 996 mb located off the East
Coast of the U.S.
By 8:00 p.m. AST tonight low 986 mb located south of East Scotian
Slope.

At 3:00 a.m. AST Wednesday departing low 982 mb located near
Laurentian Fan.

Marine Weather Statement

Issued 9:51 AM AST 9 February 2016 An intense low pressure system over Banquereau will move
northeastward to lie over the Avalon Peninsula this evening as it
weakens. Gale to storm force northeasterlies ahead of the low shift
to gale to storm force westerlies south of the system. Another low
pressure system will rapidly cross slope waters tonight into
Wednesday morning. Another period of gale to storm force winds are
forecast with this second low.

Marine interests are advised that storm warnings are in effect for
Banquereau..Laurentian Fan..And Cabot Strait. Gale warnings are in
Effect for East Scotian Slope southeastern half..Fourchu..
Gulf-Magdalen..Chaleur-Miscou and Anticosti. Freezing spray
Warnings are in effect for Cabot Strait..Northumberland
Strait..Gulf-Magdalen..Chaleur-Miscou and Anticosti.

This low will also give higher than normal water levels and rough and
pounding waves for the Atlantic Coast of Nova Scotia. Highest water
levels will occur near the high tide this morning and minor flooding
is possible.

Marine interests are advised that a high water level warning is in
effect for Fourchu and Cabot Strait for this morning. This is due to
large waves combined with a large tide and storm surge.
