Marine Weather Statement

Issued 7:46 PM NDT 28 March 2017 Gale force northwesterlies over eastern waters will diminish tonight
as a low pressure system east of the district weakens and moves away.

Marine interests are advised that gale warnings are in effect for the
Funk Island Bank, Northern Grand Banks and Southeastern Grand Banks.

Marine interests are also advised that freezing spray warnings are in
effect for the Strait of Belle Isle and Northeast Coast.

A low pressure system is forecast to move over the Southern Grand
Banks on Thursday then stall as it deepens into a major storm before
moving away on Saturday. Current guidance suggests that a very long
duration of gale to storm force northerly winds will accompany this
system from Thursday night through Saturday over most of the marine
district. Over the Northeast Coast as well as the East Coast,
particularly north of Cape St. Francis, these persistent northerly
winds could result in extensive ice buildup or pressure, both along
the outer coastline and in the bays. High waves and pounding surf are
also likely along the east facing coastline of the Avalon Peninsula.
Mariners are advised to consider what impacts these events could pose
and closely monitor future forecasts when determining what, if any
precautions might be needed.
