Gale warning in effect

Southeastern Grand Banks

Issued 8:00 PM NDT 30 March 2017

'Gale' force winds of 34 to 47 knots are occurring or expected to occur in this marine area. Watch for updated statements. Please refer to the latest marine forecasts for further details and continue to monitor the situation through Canadian Coast Guard radio or Weatheradio stations.

Synopsis

Technical Marine Synopsis

Issued 8:00 PM NDT 30 March 2017 Tonight and Friday At 8:00 p.m. NDT tonight deepening low 972 mb located over the
southern Grand Banks.
By 8:00 p.m. NDT Friday low 967 mb located east of the Grand Banks.

Marine Weather Statement

Issued 8:01 PM NDT 30 March 2017 An intense low pressure system over the Southern Grand Banks is
forecast to stall tonight before moving away Friday night into
Saturday. Strong to gale force northeasterlies ahead of this system
will increase to gale to storm force northeasterlies tonight through
Friday night.

Marine interests are advised that storm warnings are in effect for
the South Coast and East Coast. Gale warnings are in effect for all
remaining waters.

Over the Northeast Coast as well as the East Coast, particularly
north of Cape St. Francis, persistent north to northeasterly winds
will result in extensive ice buildup or pressure, both along the
outer coastline and in the bays. High waves and pounding surf are
also likely along the east facing coastline of the Avalon Peninsula.
Mariners are advised to consider what impacts these events could pose
and closely monitor future forecasts when determining what, if any
precautions might be needed.
