Marine Weather Statement

Issued 2:50 AM NDT 29 March 2017 A low pressure system is forecast to track into the Southern Grand
Banks from the west on Thursday then stall as it deepens into a major
storm before moving away on Saturday. Strong to gale force
northeasterlies are expected to develop over all waters ahead of this
system Thursday. Beyond the forecast period, winds are likely to
reach storm force over eastern waters Thursday night through Friday
night.

Marine interests are advised that gale warnings are in effect for all
waters except Northeast Coast - Cape St. John and south, Belle Isle
Bank and Funk Island Bank.

Marine interests are also advised that a freezing spray warning is in
effect for the Strait of Belle Isle for early this morning.

A very long duration of gale to storm force northerly winds is
expected with this system from Thursday night through Saturday over
most of the marine district. Over the Northeast Coast as well as the
East Coast, particularly north of Cape St. Francis, these persistent
northerly winds could result in extensive ice buildup or pressure,
both along the outer coastline and in the bays. High waves and
pounding surf are also likely along the east facing coastline of the
Avalon Peninsula. Mariners are advised to consider what impacts these
events could pose and closely monitor future forecasts when
determining what, if any precautions might be needed.
