At 8:00 p.m. NDT tonight approaching ridge located southwest of
Marine Weather StatementIssued 7:59 PM NDT 30 August 2016 An intense low pressure system just east of Funk Island Bank will
continue to track eastwards tonight to lie south of Greenland
Wednesday morning. Gale to storm force northwesterlies in the wake of
the low will gradually diminish tonight and Wednesday.
Marine interests are advised that a storm warning is in effect for
the Northern Grand Banks. Gale warnings are in effect for the East
Coast, Northeast Coast - Cape St. John and south, Belle Isle Bank -
southern half, Funk Island Bank, and the Southern Grand Banks.
At 8:00 P.M. NDT, hurricane Gaston is located near 32.6 degrees north
and 51.9 degrees west. Maximum sustained winds are 95 knots. Minimum
central pressure is about 964 MB. It is currently moving
northeastward at 9 knots.
Gaston is forecast to pass well south of Canadian forecast waters.
At 8:00 P.M. NDT, tropical depression eight is located near 34.7
degrees north and 75 degrees west. Maximum sustained winds are 30
knots. Minimum central pressure is about 1011 MB. It is currently
moving north-northeastward at 4 knots.
The depression may become a tropical storm on Wednesday, and is
forecast to cross the Southern Grand Banks on Friday.
