Northumberland Strait

Issued 3:28 PM ADT 25 September 2016 Conditions are favourable for the development of waterspouts.

An outbreak of cold air combined with warm waters and favourable atmospheric conditions will give the potential for waterspout development tonight over southern Gulf of St. Lawrence waters and the eastern half of the Northumberland Strait.

Keep in mind that waterspouts cannot be seen at night and may strike suddenly. Waterspouts are generally isolated in nature although they can also occur in families of two or more. Waterspouts are generally short-lived in nature, typically lasting 20 minutes or less. Spray rings associated with waterspouts can measure in the tens of metres.

Issued 3:30 PM ADT 25 September 2016 Tonight and Monday At 3:30 p.m. ADT today quasi-stationary trough located northeast
of Newfoundland.

At 3:30 p.m. ADT today ridge located on a line north-south over
the Great Lakes.
By 9:00 p.m. ADT Monday ridge located on a line north-south over
the Gulf of Maine.

Marine Weather Statement

Issued 3:13 PM ADT 25 September 2016 An outbreak of cold air combined with warm waters and favourable
atmospheric conditions will give the potential for waterspout
development tonight over Southern Gulf of St. Lawrence waters, and
the eastern half of the Northumberland Strait.

Marine interests are advised that a waterspout watch is in effect for
Gulf-Magdalen and the Northumberland Strait.

As of 3:30 PM ADT the center of post-tropical storm Karl was located
near latitude 41.1 north and longitude 45.5 west. Maximum sustained
winds were 60 knots and minimum central pressure was 986 MB. Karl was
moving toward the northeast at 45 knots.

This will be the last statement on Karl.
