By 3:30 p.m. ADT today Hurricane Gert 974 mb located at 44.6N 46.7W.

At 10:00 a.m. ADT today low 1000 mb located over Anticosti Island.
By 8:00 p.m. ADT tonight low 998 mb located over eastern
Newfoundland.

Marine Weather Statement

Issued 9:49 AM ADT 17 August 2017 A low pressure system over Anticosti Island will move southeastward
across the Northeastern Gulf of St. Lawrence to lie over Eastern
Newfoundland this evening. Strong to gale force westerly winds will
develop over much of the district today as the low passes by to the
east.

Marine interests are advised that gale warnings are in effect for
eastern shore, Fourchu, and Banquereau-northern half.

Marine interests are also advised that the combination of cool air,
warm waters and favourable atmospheric conditions will give the
potential for waterspout development today over the Gulf of St
Lawrence waters.

At 9:00 A.M. ADT, hurricane Gert was located near 42.3 degrees north
and 51.7 degrees west, or 270 nautical miles southeast of Cape Race,
Newfoundland. Gert was moving east-northeast at 41 knots. Maximum
sustained winds were 80 knots and central pressure was 972 MB.
